Air intake, Door pillars

Air Intake

This morning I fibreglassed a flange around the air I take, onto the lower cowl. Once it had cured I separated the flange. Tomorrow I will cut it down and fibreglass the flange onto the intake itself. Doing it this way enabled me to use the flange as it’s own mold by laying up just two layers initially. Extra layers will be added tomorrow.

Because of the cold weather I made a heat box from polystyrene sheet, and used 4 inch nails to hold it together. A small fan heater provided more than enough heat. When I’m finished I can take it apart and flat pack it until I need it again.

Door Pillars

I used Kydex to make two front door pillar covers by folding it around a piece of timber. I folded five sides so that two of them overlap. I’ll add nut-plates to the door pillar tabs and eventually use machine screws through the windshield, though the Kydex and into the nutplates.

This will give plenty of protection to the fuel lines and wiring that runs up the pillars, and also gives it a nice look.

Very happy with the result.
