Air Intake, Stick Grips, Scat tubing

Air Intake

Did some more sanding to improve the finish on the air intake. It’s pretty good now. I’ll do a bit more but not much, it’s a compromise between time and getting a satisfactory finish.

Overall I’m very pleased with how it’s turned out, particularly being my first attempt at fibreglass work.

Stick Grips

I decided that the stick grips didn’t have enough clearance from the instrument panel, being only about 5mm. It had been on my mind for a while. The panel is very secure, but I can’t be certain that movement won’t occur in turbulence or over time.

It wasn’t an easy job to fix because the wiring had already been done. I managed to remove the center bushings which were already a very snug fit due to being the oversize to start with. I then used a pipe cutter to remove above 8mm from each joystick, and forced the bushing back in. I also had to re-drill the hole for the attachment screw. I managed to ruin a thread on one of the machine screws so I’ll get a new one to replace it.

Scat tubing

Some more scat tubing arrived today. I cut a piece to length for the port heat muff and did trial fit. I then removed all 4 pieces and ran a bead of red silicon as per the Vans instructions, and left to cure overnight. Tomorrow I’ll fit them permanently.
