Aileron and Flap

I continued mounting the nutplates for AN3 bolts for the hinges. Then the hinges went into place. I had a small issue with alignment - the aileron was about 1/8" towards inboard and the flap the same amount outboard. When I set everything up and marked the hinges out, I had ensured that the gap between the aileron and flap was correct. In the photos below you can see that the hinges with the rod end bearing attachment are offset. They need to be offset to one side otherwise there's not enough room to get the bolt into place.

I'll have to modify an AN3-10 bolt as there is not enough room to physically manoeuvre it into place on the aileron rod end bearing. I also had to enlarge a hole in the flap nose rib that allows a bolt head to pass through as the flaps are raised. This wasn't obvious to me when I set everything up and in hindsight the bolt head was probably pressed against the flap nose and preventing it from closing into the wing properly.

They're now working well throughout the operating range. Next will be to torque the AN3 bolts to spec, then rivet the gussets into place. After that the trailing edges can be aligned and riveted into place.
